What do you reach for first thing in the morning (after your phone)? Many will say coffee or tea, but today Iām here to convince you to push back your morning coffee or tea by at least 60 minutes. I want to convince you salted lime water first thing in the morning is the way to go! It may sound weird at first, but this combination is both hydrating & energising.

Lime (and lemon) are considered alkaline foods when consumed. When we wake up in the morning, our bodies are usually in an acidic state, drinking lime water helps balance this out.
How does salt hydrate you?
Salt aka sodium and chloride are electrolytes, a mineral that can keep the amount of water in your body balanced. Adding salt to your morning water can help replenish electrolytes lost during sleep. Pink salt is a bonus, as it contains other trace minerals, such as potassium, magnesium & calcium. The former are also electrolytes.
Why lime instead of lemon?
Lemons are stronger than limes, leading some dentists say too much lemon juice can corrode the enamel. If limes are not available, lemon is a good substitute for the short term, just use a little less.
